Making untards can be expensive. The unitard itself can cost up to $60. Plus the shoulder fluffies.
Things you'll need:
- A unitard
- fabric paint/markers depending on what you want
- yarn/faux fur/or material with fluffies (if you choose yarn, get a metal toothed brush).
- white or black thread and sewing needle (Or a glue gun).
1) Purchas a Unitard that ether has a nice shine to it and is GOOD quality. Some shiney unitards are very thin
and rip from to much strech. Unless your attemping the Halk thats not gonna work.
2)Once you have the uni now you have to buy some paint or markers for it. I would suggest
paint. Paint is bolder and holds in the fabric better. Also, it's easier to paint large area's quicker (rememeber to water
down the paint so it doesn't dry hard).
With marker's, the colour fades easier, and when you strech the unitard the colours look very dull.
If your character has a lot of one colour but isn't a pure colour, buy lots of the one colour and
whatever other colour you'll need. Try and keep your material as flat as possible, so the marker doesn't make ugly lines.
You could eve use a bulletin board and tac the unitard on to keep it flat while painting.

3)There is at walmart (in the fabric section) long strands of material that have fluffies attached that you could sew
onto the costume. I did that with my Bomba costume and it looks pretty nifty. The only problem with the material strand is
they might not have the right colour.
To give a realistic cat look and to make your costume very interesting, you could sew on faux
fur. I do that on my t-shirt costumes and it looks pretty neat, but it's not the best technique.
A really realistic look is to use yarn, fray it and sew/glue it into the unitard. It's the most commonly used Fan technique
for shoulder fluffies and it looks great.
